State University of the Republic of Moldova was founded in 1946. During 65 years of activity the State University from Moldova became an elite university center at national and international levels. Around 100 thousand graduates work in various fields of national economy; among them there are high-quality specialists in the majority of national economy areas, renowned scientists.
Actually, the Moldova State University comprises 13 faculties (and 60 departments):

Faculty of Biology and Pedology;
Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology;
Faculty of Law; the Faculty of Physics;
Faculty of History and Philosophy;
Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences;
Faculty of Letters; the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature;
Faculty of Mathematics and IT;
Faculty of Psychology and Education Studies;
Faculty of International Relations, Political and Administrative Studies;
Faculty of Sociology and Social work;
Faculty of Economical Studies.

There are over 17 thousand undergraduate and graduate students studying at those 13 faculties. The training process is provided by a large scientific and didactic community, comprising 1100 teachers, including 8 academicians, 19 correspondent members, 120 habilitated doctors, 87 university teachers, 521 PhD, 334 associate professors.

In 2005 the Republic of Moldova joined the Strategy of the Bologna Process, which represents the priority component of the strategy for the development of higher education. This strategy determined the necessity of carrying out an essential reform of the university curriculum at the level of content and structure, in terms of redirecting the purposefulness of education, including the following:

• Structuring of the training process into three university cycles (Bachelor Degree studies " 3 years, Master Degree studies " 2 years, PhD studies " 3 years);
• Application of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS);
• Issue of the UNESCO Diploma Supplement " a necessary tool for the recognition of diplomas and training period;
• Establishment of a quality management of higher education;
• Promotion of the connection between higher education and labor market, in order to increase the chances of professional integration of youth on the internal and European labor markets etc.
• Promotion of students and teachers mobility;
• Creation of conditions to actively involve students in higher education management etc.

State University of Moldova is a titular member of the International Association of Universities, of the Euro-Asiatic Association of Universities, of Francophone University Agency; it has signed bilateral cooperation agreements with various universities from the USA, China, Israel, South Korea, Austria, France, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Bulgaria, Armenia, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Poland, Romania etc. ??" all in all, there are 120 agreements with universities from 28 countries from around the world; it participates at European and transatlantic projects (TEMPUS, INTAS, SCOPES, FP-6,7, MRDA. DAAD etc.), international contests for research scholarships, studies, training (Alexander Humboldt Foundation, AUF, and German Academic Exchange Service DAAD etc.), international scientific events (symposiums, conferences, and congresses), etc. Throughout its activity, during 65 years, the State University of Moldova shows consistency and professionalism, which confers a European dimension to the higher education system of the Republic of Moldova.
