José Luís Peixotos Conference - The Portuguese Contemporary Literature. The Case of José Luís Peixoto

On Friday (16th December), at 19:00, Portuguese writer José Luís Peixoto’s conference will be held at the TSU Portuguese Language Center [Building II, room 203]. During the meeting José Luís Peixoto will overview new authors of Portuguese fictional narrative, focusing on writers, who started to publish after 2000 year, highlighting the relation between the work and the author.

José Luís Peixoto was born in a small village from the south interior of Portugal, in the Portuguese region of Alentejo. He has a degree in Modern English and German Literature from the Universidade Nova in Lisbon. Before devoting himself to writing professionally, he taught for a year in Praia, Cape Verde and in several cities in Portugal, though he now lives off his writing. Although he mainly dedicates himself to writing fiction (with ten published works, the last of which, a novella, in 2015), he has also published three poetry books, three plays, has composed lyrics for many established Portuguese bands.

Furthermore, José Luis Peixoto is represented in a great number Portuguese and international anthologies and has collaborated in a lot of international literary magazines. He is a regular contributor for the Portuguese cultural newspaper Jornal de Letras and the Portuguese weekly magazine Visão.
