The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a presentation of Georgian translations of two textbooks - Statistics for Business and Economics (authors: David R. Anderson, Dennis J. Sweeney, Thomas A. Williams) and Understanding National Accounts (authors: François Lequiller, Derek Blades).
TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri, representatives of academic circles and students attended the event.
“Today we held a presentation of two more textbooks prepared by professors at the Faculty Business and Economics. Quite a good tendency has been observed at this faculty and it would be better if other faculties also follow suit and speed up textbook translation. The TSU Publishing House is ready to publish them without any delays,” Rector Papava said.
Georgian Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri said that “TSU continues translation of very successful textbooks approbated worldwide that is a very good initiative. These two textbooks will enable our students to obtain firsthand information about the greatest scientific achievements.”
“If we want to have more qualitative higher education and to be more integrated into European education area, it is important to familiarize ourselves with their modern scientific achievements. These books will provide opportunities for our students to get a good quality education,” Irine Darchia, head of the Department of Higher Education and Science Development at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, said.
Professor Ketevan Marshava is a scientific editor of a Georgian translation of the book Statistics for Business and Economics (authors: David R. Anderson, Dennis J. Sweeney, Thomas A. Williams; 11th revised edition). Members of the editorial board are: Professor Simon Gelashvili and Associate Professor Marine Mindorashvili.
An official agreement was signed in 2014 with the relevant U.S publisher to issue a textbook Statistics for Business and Economics; the book was printed by the TSU printing house. It is designed for BA students, but its separate topics can also be used by MA students.
Professor Simon Gelashvili is a scientific editor and Professor Ketevan Marshava is an editor of Georgian translation of the second textbook Understanding National Accounts by François Lequiller and Derek Blades. The book was printed under the aegis of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and its publication coincided with the period, when all OECD member states introduced the 2008 System of National Accounts. The book is designed for MA students, but it can also be used by young statisticians, students, journalists, economists and all those citizens, who want to expand their knowledge about necessary statistics to measure economic development in OECD member states.
The both publications were translated and issued in frames of the university textbook translation project initiated by Rector Vladimer Papava.
