Emeritus Professor Andrew Louth Visits TSU

The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted Emeritus Professor of Patristic and Byzantine Studies in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University, Father Andrew Louth on October 21.

Rector of the Tbilisi State University, Academician Vladimer Papava awarded the University Medal to Emeritus Professor Andrew Louth for his special contribution to studying the writings of Maximus the Confessor.  

“An International Conference on St. Maximus the Confessor is being held in Georgia. A lot of famous scientists have arrived from various countries. Among them is Professor Andrew Louth, fellow of the British Academy. We invited him to deliver a lecture that will lay the foundation for our future cooperation with him,” Rector Papava said.

“This is my third visit to Georgia. This time I am participating in the 5th International Conference on St. Maximus the Confessor. At TSU I will deliver a lecture on Orthodox Identity in the Modern World,” Prof. Andrew Louth said.  

Prof. Andrew Louth is the author of a lot of scientific works in Patristic and Byzantine Studies. Before coming to Durham, he taught at Oxford University and at Goldsmiths College of the University of London. Presently, Prof Louth is teaching at the Free University, Amsterdam. He is Archpriest in the Russian Orthodox Patriarchal Diocese of Sourozh.
