The issues of boosting cooperation and establishing new relations between the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the universities of Argentina were discussed during the TSU delegation’s working visit to Argentina.
TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Dean of TSU Faculty of Medicine, Professor Aleksandre Tsiskaridze and Head of the TSU Foreign Relations Department, Tea Gergedava held talks with the representatives of the Argentine Ministry of Education; the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation and four leading universities (University of el Salvador; National University of La Plata; University of Belgrano and National University of Quilmes).
TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said: “The TSU delegation’s working visit to Argentina proved quite fruitful. The department studying Georgia is already successfully functioning at the University of La Plata. In future, relevant agreements will be signed with the Universities of el Salvador, Belgrano and Quilmes. Moreover, our delegation was received by Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao, who showed interest to engage Georgian scientists in joint research programs with Argentine researchers. A meeting was also held with the Commissar of the Ministry of Education, who expressed the desire to establish cooperation between the Argentine universities and TSU.”
The TSU delegation’s visit to Argentina was held from May 23 to June 1. During the meeting with the representatives of the Georgian Department at the National University of La Plata and its head, Prof. Dr. Norberto Consani (Director of the Institute of International Relations), the members of Georgian delegation discussed the perspectives of expansion of the Georgian Department’s activities as well as establishing cooperation between TSU and the National University of La Plata in the sphere of exact and natural sciences. The parties discussed the possibilities of conducting joint research, as well as holding conferences, lectures and preparing publications.
On invitation of the University of Belgrano, TSU Rector Vladimer Papava delivered a public lecture on a topic: “Economic Reforms in Georgia: Old Problems and New Challenges.”
Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentina, Lino Barañao stressed the importance of anthropology for the South American country and expressed willingness to promote cooperation between the scientists from the two countries in this sphere. The delegation of the National University of Quilmes is expected to visit TSU this autumn.
