On December 22, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State
University (TSU) hosted an Awards Evening of student literary
competition Autumn Legend. Three winners were revealed: the best work
was created by Beka Beradze. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze awarded a
pecuniary prize from the Tbilisi State University and the competition
symbol to him. Mindia Arabuli and Luka Gordadze became the winners of
the second and third places. Tamta Kamushadze became the winner of the
online literary marathon.
TSU Rector, Giorgi Sharvashidze noted that the competition was held for
already the eighth time this year. Over 300 writers participated in it;
it means that the project scales have increased significantly.
“Students arrived from various parts of Georgia to participate in the
competition and we can only welcome this fact,” he said. The Rector also
noted that the format of the competition is extremely good for young
writers and the fact that the winners of the previous competition become
the jury members somehow has a symbolic nature.
The victory was a great surprise for Beka Beradze. “I did not expect to
win. It really was a surprise and I am very happy. I participated in
the competition for the second time already and these two years were
very important and interesting for me,” the first place winner, Beka
Beradze said.
The authors of three best stories were revealed by the jury consisting
of Guram Odisharia, Teona Dolenjashvili, Dato Turashvili, Maka Ldokonen,
Diana Anpimiadi and last year’s winner, Ani Gigashvili.
Maka Ldokonen, one of the jury members, said that all the ten finalists
presented very good stories and it was extremely difficult to select
the winner. “I want to thank the contestants for those positive
emotions, which we received from reading their works. The interest
towards Autumn Legend is increasing. Each year more good students are
participating and the competition is further increasing,” she said.
The jury selected the authors of three best stories out of 10 finalists
of the improvisation round and all of them received pecuniary prizes
from the Tbilisi State University and special awards from the company
Geocell. Thus, the winner of the first place received GEL 1000 and
competition symbol; the winners of the second and third places received
GEL 700 and GEL 500, respectively.
Along with the main competition, all those willing to participate in
the competition could join an online literary marathon. With the help of
Geocell’s special application, registered contestants created their
works on the same topic offered to the finalists. The winner of the
online literary marathon received a special gift from the company
Geocell.
A presentation of the 2015-2016 joint collection was also held at the
event. All the guests attending the event received these collections as
gifts.
The student literary competition August Legend is a joint project of
the Tbilisi State University and the company Geocell. It aims at
discovering talented young people and paving their ways for future
success.
The literary competition was held in two stages. The first round
started on September 20 and lasted for a month. Students from various
higher educational institutions accredited in Tbilisi were eligible to
participate. The jury selected 10 finalists out of 400 contestants
participating in the first round. The finalists were given 12 hours to
create new works at hotel complex Kvareli Edem on the topic offered by
the jury.
