On December 12, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosted a presentation of the new poetry collection “AVE, EVA!” by Dato Magradze. TSU students, academics and invited guests attended the event.
“I selected my native university for the book presentation. One always feels better in a native environment, native space. Therefore, I decided to hold my first presentation within these walls,” Dato Magradze said.
Professor Paata Chkheidze, German poet and writer Gert Robert Grünert, Dr. Nino Popiashvili addressed the audience during the event.
“Dato Magradze is a distinguished alumnus and it is very important that today he visits the university as a prominent poet and holds a presentation of his collection of poems. The collection named “AVE, EVA” contains his latest poems. In another important development, German Kartvelologist, Gert Robert Grünert, who is also attending the evening, will be awarded with the Medal of Tbilisi State University for his huge contribution to the popularization of Georgian poetry and culture,” Head of the TSU Library, Zurab Gaiparashvili said.
“It is a great honor for me to be awarded with the University Medal. This is yet another step towards deepening Georgian-German relations,” Gert Robert Grünert said, adding that being an honorary host of Frankfurt Book Fair is a very important challenge for Georgia.
“We are glad to present two books at Frankfurt Book Fair – the first is “Anthology of Georgian Poetry” in German, involving about 300 translated poems, among them Dato Magradze’s poems, and the second - “Giacomo Ponti” by Dato Magradze, which has already received a number of European awards in Italy.”
