Presentation of a Book ‘Modern Banking: Theory and Practice’

A presentation of a book “Modern Banking: Theory and Practice” by Professors Irakli Kovzanadze and Gogi Kontridze was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

A 548-page book is designed for BA students specialized in banking as well as for MA students specialized in other economic directions, PhD students and academic staff. The book will also be helpful for scientists and researchers, economists and practicing bankers to deepen their knowledge in banking.

Head of the Partnership Fund Irakli Kovzanadze noted at the presentation that multi-year bank practice and pedagogical experience prompted him and his colleague to write the book. “The book is based on international and national experience in banking. Basing on normative documents of banking legislation and statistical information, the book reviews concrete examples of banking with reference to Georgia and international banking practice,” Irakli Kovzanadze said.

Ex-President of the National Bank of Georgia, Roman Gotsiridze, who also attended the presentation, stressed the importance of the book. “The book is built on the authors’ personal experience and it is a very interesting textbook, which besides a theoretical course precisely reflects Georgian banking reality.”

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Giorgi Kvirikashvili congratulated the authors on the publication of their book. “The book provides deep analysis of banking system and it is full of practical examples that further increase the importance of this book. You know that until now there was no Georgian-language textbook in this sphere and teachers faced certain problems in carrying out a comprehensive teaching process. This publication will completely eradicate this problem,” Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.

After a certain period the information provided in the textbook will be updated and it will be republished. To ensure that all students and interested persons have access to the textbook, the authors will post its electronic version on a website and any interested person will be able to view it in Internet or download it.
