An employment forum was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on April 4. Over 70 private and public employers acquainted TSU students and graduates with internship, employment and other career development opportunities.
Deputy Rector of TSU, Mikheil Chkhenkeli said that this type of forum has already become a tradition at TSU. “A lot of employers, from both public and private sectors, are participating in the forum this year too. The university offers a new form of cooperation to employers - to actively get involved in the development of syllabuses for our academic programs. It will help our programs become more employment-oriented and come closer to labor market requirements,” Deputy Rector Mikheil Chkhenkeli said.
“It is one of the important tools that the university offers students in terms of employment and internship. The public and private organizations that are represented here have concrete job offers and vacancies. The previous experience has shown that the employment forum is very fruitful and it has been proved by feedbacks,” Khatuna Tskhadadze, head of the TSU Career Development Center and forum organizer, said.
TSU student Lasha Mgeladze received concrete job offers at the employment forum. “The companies that are quite successful on Georgian market are represented at the forum. Most of their offers were tailored to student interests. Personally I received two, quite acceptable and available offers from the companies.”
“I already have a job but I do not work by profession. I came to the employment forum in order to enjoy this opportunity and get offers from employers,” TSU graduate, Davit Edzgveradze said.
The private sector was represented by the companies involved in the spheres of banking and finance, medicine and pharmacy, insurance, large trade and distribution networks, tourism and services, research and consulting. Besides the private companies, employers from the public sector, among them ministries and other public agencies, were also represented at the forum.
The employment forum, which was held at TSU for the fourth time, is an effective path towards a rapprochement between students and employers. The forum enables young people to meet and talk to the representatives of the Human Rights Departments of their desirable companies and organizations, introduce themselves, get information about staff needs and staff policies of prospective employers.
