A solemn evening dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Mikheil Kurdiani, philologist, linguist, writer, former TSU professor, political and public figure was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, academic staff, students, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Culture, Georgian society attended the event.
“Although Mikheil Kurdiani died quite young, he left a rich heritage. Mikheil Kurdiani was actively participating in the formation of modern Georgian state. He was the face of modern university,” TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said.
During the solemn evening TSU Rector Vladimer Papava handed over the Ivane Javakhishvili Medal to the family of Mikheil Kurdiani awarded to the latter for his special contribution to the development of Kartvelian and Caucasian studies by the TSU Academic Council on February 10, 2014.
“I would have been happy if Misha had met this anniversary alive. The today’s evening confirms that Misha has not died. I am glad that the Tbilisi State University remembers Misha Kurdiani. I want to express my huge gratitude to the university for this,” Mikheil Kurdiani’s wife, Sopio Lobzhanidze said.
A film titled “When a Man Loves” (author: journalist Nino Kakulia) depicting Mikheil Kurdiani’s life and work was shown during the event. The event ended by a presentation of a new collection of poems and letters by Mikheil Kurdiani. The event was organized by the editorial board of the newspaper Tbilisis Universiteti.
