A presentation of the book “Georgian Language 1. Practical Course in Georgian for Foreigners” by Professor Ramaz Kurdadze was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on June 11. The book is designed for those foreigners and English speaking students, who want to learn Georgian. The book offers 15 lessons: Georgian alphabet according to I. Gogebashvili’s principles and 65 exercises.
Dean of the TSU Faculty of Humanities, Nana Gaprindashvili, Head of the Department of the Official Language, Giorgi Alibegashvili, TSU professors and students attended the presentation.
Dean of the TSU Faculty of Humanities, Nana Gaprindashvili said that Professor Ramaz Kurdadze’s experience will be very useful for those people who are willing to learn the Georgian language. “It is a very important publication. With the help of this book foreigners will be able to learn Georgian. Such publications are very important for the countries like Georgia, which tries to gain its foothold on the cultural map of the world.”
Professor Ramaz Kurdadze said that the exercises offered in the book were part of the lecture course delivered by TSU professors at various European and American universities. “It is a collection of practical exercises. We used this method when delivering lectures at the Stony Brook University, Dartmouth College, Leiden University and the University of Bremen. The exercises composed for these lectures along with grammatical instructions and notes are concentrated in this book; it also involves an English-Georgian dictionary.”
Ramaz Kurdadze also noted that a new book “Georgian Language 2” will be published in the future, adding that the book has already been approbated at Leiden and Bremen Universities.
