Gia Kancheli Evening at TSU

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosted an evening on November 11 dedicated to Georgian composer, Gia Kancheli. The event was organized by TSU’s Student Self-Governance and Nikoloz Rachveli, Nato Metonidze, Liza Bagrationi, Giorgi Tsagareli participated in it.
Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze thanked the Georgian composer for coming to his native university and awarded the University Medal to Gia Kancheli, who graduated from the Faculty of Geology. The composer recollected his years spent at the university and answered students’ questions.
“It is impossible not to like Kancheli’s music. Just therefore, we decided to invite him to the university. We want to express our gratitude to Mr. Kancheli for coming and holding this beautiful evening for us, the students,” President of the TSU Self-Governance, Bakhva Kvirikashvili said.
“The TSU students did a great job and organized one of the best evenings at the university. By participation in this evening, we demonstrate our love towards Gia Kancheli and his creative work,” Nikoloz Rachveli, one of the organizers of the event, said.
During the evening, TSU students had an opportunity to view a video recording of New York performance of Dixi by Gia Kancheli. Compositions by Kancheli were performed by Tbilisi State Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra. TSU dancers performed the tango under the music of Gia Kancheli. The Women’s Choir performed a symphony “Yellow Leaves.”
