Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU)
meets the New Year 2017 with improved positions in international
rankings. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze said that the university
has improved its positions in several international rankings. “First of
all, it is Times Higher Education ranking. It is the most reliable
ranking, which lists 1000 most successful universities with global
impact. TSU is ranked 800th and we plan to improve this position.” He
also said that TSU moved to the 184th place among the world’s 248
universities in Thomson Reuters World University Rankings. This position
was improved a month ago.
TSU maintains leading positions in the state grant competitions
announced by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation. According to
the results of the grant competitions announced by the Foundation, TSU
received 36% in basic research; 42% - applied research; 38% - PhD
scholarships; 54% - call for young scientists; 64% - MA research
scholarships; 33% - collaborative research project call; 37% - research
grants for young scientists and foreign internships grant
competition.
“We continue active cooperation with Shota Rustaveli National Science
Foundation. TSU professors and scientists have obtained a lot of grants.
In addition, the university managed to attract most successful MA
students this year. Students made their choice in favor of the Tbilisi
State University and they will not lose,” Giorgi Sharvashidze noted.
“TSU is actively working in foreign directions and it is an
unconditional regional leader in exchange programs. TSU is participating
in 56 projects of Erasmus+, the EUs educational programme; it is also
involved in Horizon 2020, the EU Research and Innovation programme,”
Rector Sharvashidze said.
