TSU Students Participate in Tour Operator Research Project

The National Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia awarded certificates to the students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) for active participation in the Tbilisi-based tour operator research project.

Students of 15 universities and vocational educational institutions participated in the research project. Students from the TSU Faculty of Economics and Business constituted the largest group involved in the project.

Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze said that research of travel agencies is a very interesting topic. A large group of TSU students participated in the project. Each member of the group is a future tourism manager, he said. “The research conducted by the Tourism Administration is interesting as it provides students with real-life work experience. This is just what we call ‘work-based learning.’ It is necessary to establish close links between learning and future employment that was actually achieved within the framework of this project,” Rector Sharvashidze said.

TSU students were involved in the research project under the Memorandum signed between TSU and the National Tourism Administration, envisaging cooperation in research projects, organizing internships and other issues related to learning. Students gained experience in conducting research and deepened their knowledge about current situation in tourism sector.

The research was organized by the National Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. 192 domestic, outbound and inbound tour operators were interviewed. Major markets, visited and popular places, types of offered tours were outlined through the research.
