Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Giorgi Sharvashidze expresses condolences to the University of Tartu on the passing of its Rector, Prof. Volli Kalm.
“On behalf of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University community, I present our deepest condolences on the passing of the Rector of University of Tartu, Professor Volli Kalm,” the letter of condolences reads.
“Professor Kalm has been an outstanding leader and a scholar, a good friend of TSU who contributed to building our ever-stronger partnership and forged existing ties between Estonian and Georgian people. Professor Kalm was an indefatigable enthusiast of TSU’s internationalization efforts,” according to the letter.
“He was an ardent supporter of a four-year project funded by the EU Commission’s Marie Curie Actions together with Tbilisi State University and two other partners. This was the project, which allowed hundreds of researchers, professors and administrators in project partner universities to develop and strengthen ties and to advance scholarship of European studies,” the letter of condolences reads.
In November 2017, the Academic Council of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University made a decision to confer the Honorary Doctorate Degree to Professor Volli Kalm.
