Schoolchildren from Surami Public School Visit TSU

Schoolchildren from public school No. 2 in Surami, a small town in Georgia’s Shida Kartli region, visited Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on November 13. TSU Rector George Sharvashidze showed them around the TSU Library and Museum, acquainting them with current educational programs and learning perspectives at TSU.

“I think, the today’s meeting was interesting. Our door is always open for school children and I hope that many of them will become our students. These children are participating in a fantastic project of Wikipedia revitalization. So, we hosted very interesting guests at TSU,” Rector George Sharvashidze said.

Lika Kharazishvili, a student of the Surami School, said that she got interested in TSU educational programs, adding that she might continue her studies at TSU. “We visited the TSU Library and Museum that was very interesting for me, because I familiarized myself with unique exhibits and items stored there,” she said.

After visiting the TSU Library and Museum, the schoolchildren met with TSU students and professors. Jaba Labadze, teacher of history from Surami public school No. 2, delivered a report “Multilingual and Free Wiki Encyclopedia.” “It was an extraordinary day for my pupils and me. Rector George Sharvashidze showed us around the university. We held a seminar with the first-year students of the TSU Faculty of History on the benefits of Georgian Wikipedia for the public,” he said.

Along with school children and students, professors also took part in the discussions on the role of wiki technology, as well as Wikipedia as a reliable source of information.
