Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Giorgi Sharvashidze visited the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia on February 22. The Rector was hosted by Minister Tariel Khechikashvili and Deputy Ministers – Shalva Gogoladze and Revaz Javelidze. The sides discussed the issue of deepening cooperation between TSU and the Ministry and agreed to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation that will promote the development of professional and mass sports at the university. The Ministry will assist TSU through sport organizations and infrastructure.
Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said after the meeting that the university has good athletes and good sport clubs, which are actively involved in various tournaments. “We want to restore a very good tradition of holding Alpiniads [mountaineering events]. We plan to further intensify sport and youth life at TSU and this memorandum signed between the Ministry and the University will help us significantly,” Sharvashidze said.
“We will assist TSU in developing mass sports through sport organizations and infrastructure. Students will be able to compete in different types of sports; we also plan to hold a lot of interesting tournaments. The memorandum will be signed in the near future and it will ensure the popularization of healthy lifestyle,” Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Tariel Khechikashvili said.
