Memorandum of Cooperation

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on June 23. The Memorandum was signed by Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze and Minister Sozar Subari.

Rector Sharvashidze said that the Memorandum signed between TSU and the Ministry coves a wide range of diverse activities, among them promoting IDP students and replenishing library collections. “With the help of the Ministry and Georgian Ambassador to Germany, Prof. Lado Chanturia, it became possible to transfer to Tbilisi the richest private library bequeathed by Klaus Schwagel, Professor at the University of Tübingen, to TSU. These are unique books, albums, dedicated to the history of art, architecture. The library is trilingual: English, German and French. Our university library will be enriched by these books. The collections will be available to IDPs as well as other interested persons,” Giorgi Sharvashidze said.

“I am sure that the Memorandum signed with TSU will be beneficial for our IDP students and simultaneously useful for the university. In recent years, the Tbilisi State University achieved a huge success. The fact that TSU is among the best European universities and its rankings continue to improve from year to year, indicates at the great potential that the university has. We will be glad to make at least a small contribution to the university’s success,” Minister in charge of IDPs issues, Sozar Subari said.

Under the Memorandum, the Ministry will periodically transfer educational and scientific literature to the University. In its turn, the University will select IDP students with high academic performance and finance their studies.
