Mission 2018 – Student Competition in Marketing and PR

On March 15, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) announced the launch of student competition Mission 2018. The goal of the competition is to promote the implementation of student ideas and their professional development, to ensure cooperation of winning students with partner companies and to increase future employment opportunities.

The contestants have an opportunity to become the company’s virtual marketing and PR managers, to plan particular activities, to win in the competition, to obtain money awards and realize their own ideas. This year the construction company AS Georgia Dirsi is TSU’s partner.

The competition was announced within the framework of the Memorandum signed between TSU and the company Dirsi. The University and Dirsi will agree on joint cooperation, involving support for student projects, joint events, internships and other activities. The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by Rector of the Tbilisi State University, Giorgi Sharvashidze and Director of the company AS Georgia Dirsi, Besik Jikurauli.

Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said that besides student competition, TSU also plans to launch an internship program with AS Georgia Dirsi. “We deem it very important to establish relations with business companies. It is good that the company Dirsi is TSU’s main partner. 50 companies are already cooperating with the Tbilisi State University. It is a very good basis in terms of student employment and internship,” Sharvashidze said.

Director of the company AS Georgia Dirsi, Besik Jikurauli said that Mission 2018 is a mutually beneficial project, adding that it represents a perquisite of future cooperation with TSU. “We think that a lot of students will get involved in the project. Besides Mission 2018, we also offer students a program of trainings. During the year, about 15 students will undergo internships in the Dirsi complex,” Besik Jikurauli said.

The Dirsi residential complex is the largest project implemented in Tbilisi. The GEL 200 million investment involves the complex itself and the local enterprise producing building materials.

The competition is held in two rounds: the participants of the first round fulfill the tasks offered by the university, while in the second round they become a partner brand’s virtual marketing and PR managers and work on the company’s tasks. In the process of developing their final works, contestants will attend seminars and consultations organized for them to study the means of effective project implementation. The finalists will visit the company’s head office and Dirsi residential complex.

The prize money amounts to GEL 5000 and it will be awarded to three winners of the competition: I place – GEL 2500; II place – GEL 1500; III place – GEL 1000.

The competition is being held for the sixth time this year. 300 teams from TSU’s various faculties participated in the student competition over the past five years. Last year the competition was held in partnership with the following companies: IDS Borjomi Georgia; Geoplant; Natakhtari; Sante and TBC Bank.
