Tbilisi General Plan Discussed at TSU

The Tbilisi General Plan was discussed at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on July 28. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze, Mayor of Tbilisi Davit Narmania, Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council Giorgi Alibegashvili, representatives of the Tbilisi City Hall, the Tbilisi City Council, NGO sector and the university’s academic staff participated in the event.

Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said that the concepts envisaged by the new plan are modern. Moreover, the plan takes into account the huge experience accumulated in urban development. “It is good when the topics related to the city, the country are discussed publicly. An entire group has been involved in the development of this plan. We, the TSU professors, are also working on this issue and we have a lot of opinions about how to improve the draft plan in particular directions,” Sharvashidze said.

“The General Plan is a very important document. Besides traditional and already existing issues of urban planning, the General Plan offers the most important directions, which are especially interesting to all of us, our citizens. Today we are discussing the General Plan at TSU with the participation of professors, who are also working on these issues. Their opinions, proposals are important to us and all their remarks will be taken into consideration,” Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania said.

The final version of the Tbilisi General Plan will be ready by late August. Before that, public and sectoral discussions are underway. The draft plan envisages long term, as well as short and medium term projects to be implemented till 2030.
