WFME Adviser Visits TSU

Tewfik Nawar, adviser to the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), visited Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on July 28. The WFME Adviser presented a report on international accreditation of medical schools for the representatives of higher educational institutions implementing medical programs. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze and Director of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, Tamar Sanikidze attended the meeting.

WFME Adviser Tewfik Nawar said after the meeting that the need for medical school accreditation and the standards of accreditation of medical education institutions were discussed at the meeting. He also said that foreign experts are also visiting Georgia, who will summarize the existing situation, present their own opinions and give recommendations to the universities.

Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said that a very interesting meeting was held with the WFME Adviser on the accreditation of medical education. “It is very good that we are moving to international accreditation. It means that our graduates will receive globally recognized diplomas. These are the first steps taken by us and I hope that with the help of experts, our foreign colleagues we will manage to provide high standards of education to our medical students.”

The visit of WFME Adviser Tewfik Nawar to Georgia will last till July 30.
