The TSU Camões Centre offers both
credited and public Portuguese language courses.

CREDITED COURSES
a) Each year, the Centre offers 4 levels of Portuguese language acquisition courses to TSU students (Departments offering this option are: Humanities, Exact and Natural Sciences, Psychology and Educational Sciences)
LEVEL 1 – A1 Basic User
LEVEL 2 – A2 Basic User
LEVEL 3 – B1 Independent User
LEVEL 4 – between (at least) B2 Independent User4 and (ideally) C1 Proficient User
b) Each course is credited with 5 ECTS and students are allowed to have up to 10 ECTS, i.e. TSU only allows the students to do two levels of Portuguese language acquisition.
c) Levels 1 and 3 open annually in the Fall Semester (September-February) and levels 2 and 4 in the Spring Semester (March-June).
d) Enrollment is currently done through the Spanish Department, where Portuguese appears as an optional course.
e) Each course only opens if there is a minimum of 5 students enrolled and each class should have no more than 18 students.
f) We are currently working on offering Language courses to other TSU faculties as well.
PUBLIC COURSES
a) Each year, the Centre offers 4 levels of Portuguese language acquisition courses to the general public.
LEVEL 1 – A1.1 / A1.2 Basic User
LEVEL 2 – A2.1 / A2.2 Basic User
LEVEL 3 – B1.2 / B1.2 Independent User
LEVEL 4 – between (at least) B2 Independent User4 and (ideally) C1 Proficient User
b) The courses are organized in partnership with the TSU Life Long Learning Center and at the end of each Course, students who pass will be granted a Certificate, issued by the TSU Life Long Learning Center.
c) The price for the ENTIRE COURSE is 255 GEL (general public) or 225 GEL (TSU students and employees).
d) Each course only opens if there is a minimum of 7 students enrolled and each class should have no more than 18 students.
e) Enrollment is done through the TSU Life Long Learning Center or by sending an e-mail to the teacher in the beginning of the semester: Sofia Cruz
GENERAL INFO
This information is common to all the courses.
a) Place: TSU Camões Portuguese Language Centre (TSU Building II, room 203)
b) Teacher: Sofia Cruz (sofia.cruz@tsu.ge)
c) Duration of each course: one semester (52 hours)
d) Schedule: 4 hours per week divided in two lessons of 2 hours each
e) Book: Tavares, Ana. Português XXI. Editora Lidel, Lisboa. Books 1 and 2. (provided in PDF in the first lesson of each course)
f) Languages: both European and Brazilian Portuguese will be learned and discussed in class
g) Pre-requisites: since the working language is English, the participants are expected to be at least at A2/B1 level in terms of linguistic skills. When enrolling on levels other than 1, the students are expected to have a command of the Portuguese language at least equivalent to the end of the previous level.
h) Skills acquired at the end of each language acquisition level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, Council of Europe, 2011):
LEVEL 1: A1 Basic User – By the end of the course, the learner: a) can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type; b) can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has; c) can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
LEVEL2: A2 Basic User – By the end of the course, the learner: a) can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment); b) can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters; c) can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
LEVEL 3: B1 Independent User – By the end of the course, the learner: a) can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.; b) can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken; c) can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest; d) can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
LEVEL 4: B2 Independent User – By the end of the course, the learner: a) can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization; b) can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party; c) can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
C1 Proficient User – By the end of the course, the learner: a) can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning; b) can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions; c) can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes; d) can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
