Closing Event of the Project “Let’s Learn Georgian”
At 2pm on December 17, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) will host a solemn closing ceremony of the project “Let’s Learn Georgia program of accelerative integrated method of teaching the official language and constitutional principles.”
Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science as well as the Georgian President’s office, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, professors, invited guests and students will attend the event.
Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University started to implement a pilot project “Let’s Learn Georgian” funded by the President’s reserve fund in 2015. The project envisages accelerative methods of teaching Georgian in the regions densely populated with ethnic minorities; it enables all interested persons to learn the official language. The project has been implemented in three regions (Kvemo Kartli, Kakheti, Samtskhe-Javakheti), nine municipalities (Marneuli, Gardabani, Bolnisi, Dmanisi, Tetritskaro, Akhalkalaki, Akhaltsikhe, Sagarejo and Lagodekhi), 60 villages with over 2500 students. A special textbook has been developed for the program (by TSU Associate Professor Kakha Gabunia); the courses in the regions were led by professors and lecturers from TSU.
A ceremony of awarding certificates to successful students and lecturers is also planned. A presentation of the film about the project will be held; moreover, photo and video materials featuring the process of learning will be shown.
