8th International Pre-Moot

On February 23, at 10am, the 8th International Pre-Moot will be continued at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The event will be organized by Arbitration Initiative Georgia (AIG) within the framework of moot court competitions of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

The Willem C. Vis moot court competitions are one of the world prestigious competitions in international commercial arbitration. The final round of the competition is annually held in Vienna with the participation of hundreds of teams from various countries. Before the final round, various cities in the world hold Pre-Moots. Tbilisi will be hosting Tbilisi International Pre-Moot for the 8th year.

Among international teams participating in this year’s competition are: Aarhus University (Denmark), University of Passau (Germany), University of Hamburg (Germany), Bucerius Law School (Germany), Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany), University of Bonn (Germany), University of Düsseldorf (Germany), National Research University Higher School of Economics (Russia), Moscow State Institute of International Relations (Russia), the S. S. Alexeev Private Law Research Centre (Russian School of Private Law) (Russia), American University of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan), Armenian Law School (Armenia), Baku State University (Azerbaijan).

Among Georgian teams are: Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Free University of Tbilisi, Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), Georgian Technical University, University of Georgia (UG) and - for the first time in the history of Pre-Moot – Caucasus University (CU).

The three-day event will be launched by an opening ceremony and a small conference on February 22. The conference topics will cover current issues of this year’s competition. Oral rounds will be held on February 23-24, where international and local experts, partners of law firms and practicing lawyers will be invited as arbitrators.

EY Georgia is an exclusive partner of the first day of Pre-Moot. Along with the opening ceremony, it will also host a reception for the arbitrators. Since 2012, oral rounds are hosted by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. AIG offers special thanks to the European Union (EU), United Nations Development Programme and Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia (PROLoG) for their financial support. Participation in German, Azerbaijani and Armenian teams is traditionally supported by GIZ. The closing and awards ceremonies will be sponsored by PwC Georgia.
