Honorary Doctorates Award Ceremony at TSU
On March 26, Honorary Doctorates of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University were awarded to President of Justus Liebig University Giessen (Germany), Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee, and Professor Anna Soncini of the University of Bologna.
“Honorary Doctorates were awarded to the friends of our university, Professor Mukherjee of the University of Giessen, and Professor Soncini of the University of Bologna,” Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze said, noting that TSU has a multi-year fruitful relationship with the University of Giessen and many joint projects have been implemented. “The main project that we are working on today is the Geographic Atlas of Georgia. For the first time in the history of Georgia, an academic, scientific atlas of Georgia will be published. The University of Giessen, as well as Georgian professors are involved in it. We hope that this product will be presented to the Frankfurt Book Fair, where Georgia enjoys the status of an honorary guest. We also have fruitful cooperation with the University of Bologna. Professor Soncini had been a supervisor of Georgian PhD students, who defended a joint thesis. This is the first case of such collaboration between the University of Bologna and TSU,” Giorgi Sharvashidze added.
TSU Honorary Doctor, Joybrato Mukherjee spoke about the cooperation between TSU and the University of Giessen. “It is a great honor for me to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of TSU. Our universities – TSU and the University of Giessen – have a long-term partnership. I hope that these relations will further continue and become more fruitful,” Joybrato Mukherjee said.
Professor Anna Soncini also hailed ten-year cooperation between the University of Bologna and TSU and expressed hope that fruitful cooperation between the two universities would further continue.
Following the awards ceremony, Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee and Professor Anna Soncini delivered public lectures.
