Inauguration of Francophone Digital Campus in Tbilisi
An inauguration of the Tbilisi-based Francophone digital campus was held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on March 12. TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava; Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister, Khatuna Totladze; French Ambassador to Georgia, Renaud Salins; Bulgarian Ambassador to Georgia, Plamen Bonchev; Romanian Ambassador to Georgia, Dumitru Badea; Regional Director of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF - Francophone University Association), Fabien Flori, foreign diplomats and students attended the event.
TSU Rector, Vladimer Papava said: “We have opened a Francophone digital room at the university, which will promote learning of the French language, literature and culture. The project is supported by our university, the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie and the Embassy of France to Georgia. Students from Georgian higher educational institutions will be able to get relevant information and relevant education here.”
“The Agence universitaire de la Francophonie invested EUR 15 thousand to equip this room with computers and other electronic equipment. Thus, Georgian students will be able to get involved and join the Francophone education space. Georgia is an observer member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie. Two years ago we offered the Georgian government to expand this membership,” French Ambassador to Georgia, Renaud Salins said.
The participants spoke about the culture of dialogue and presented the projects funded by AUF.
A number of events are planned in frames of the Francophone Days in Georgia: the days of French-language films, French literature, music, theater, visual art and cuisine.
The Agence universitaire de la Francophonie has funded EUR 650 thousand project in Georgia.
The Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) is one of the most important higher education and research associations in the world. The AUF has also been La Francophonie’s operating agency for higher education and research since 1989. The AUF has 800 members distributed throughout francophone countries.
