“Plant a Tree for Your University!” – Tree Planting Event at TSU Maglivi Building

A tree planting event “Plant a Tree for Your University” was held near the 10th (Maglivi) Building of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on November 9. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze, Mayor of Tbilisi Davit Narmania, TSU students, professors and administrative staff planted 100 cypress trees and mountain maples.

Rector Sharvashidze said: “Planting of trees is one thing and caring for these trees is quite another. Together with our students, we will take care of growing these trees. We are grateful to the Mayor for his initiative, especially as he simultaneously is the university professor. We are going to ask our alumni and professors to get involved in improving the educational and research space as well as student environment.”

“Tree planting works are intensively underway on the entire territory of Tbilisi. This time we planted trees on the territory adjacent to the TSU Maglivi Building with the participation of the university administration, professors and students. Each of us should take care of improving the ecological situation in our city,” Mayor of Tbilisi, TSU Professor Davit Narmania said.

“It is very important that the trees are planted on the territory adjacent to the university, because, we, the students, are studying here and we want to have a clean environment. I hope that similar events will continue and become even more intensive to ensure that tree planting rather than tree cutting becomes a priority in the country and generally, for the people,” Alexander Kubaneishvili, student from the Faculty of Business and Economics, said.

The tree planting event was held with the support of the Department of Environment and Green Spaces of the Tbilisi City Hall.
