Open Day for Admission to Master’s Program ‘European Integration and Labor Relations’

The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) organized an open day for admission to master’s program “European Integration and Labor Relations” on September 2. Deputy Rector of the Tbilisi State University, Marine Chitashvili; Rector of the Caucasus University, Kakha Shengelia; Rector of the Georgian American University, Michael Cowgill; Head of National Tempus Office, Lika Glonti, invited guests and persons interested in the master’s program attended the event.

Deputy Rector Marine Chitashvili said that “the most remarkable novelty of this program is that it is interuniversity program meaning that the program will jointly be implemented by three Georgian universities and the universities of Belgium, Germany, Spain and Bulgaria. Along with already existing six courses, four new ones will be developed and added to the curriculum. What is most important, it will help us in functioning of the Career Development Center, because students will have an opportunity to undergo internships along with their studies.”

“Europe and European rule of life is built on harmonious relationship between an employer and an employee. The new master’s program involves not only learning but also research and it will promote the comprehensive implementation of the process. It will be quite easy for the graduates of this program to find jobs. We plan to sign a memorandum with several government agencies under which students will undergo their internships and then prepare their master’s theses abroad and become highly skilled specialists in relevant fields,” Project Manager Beka Natsvlishvili said.

“It is a very successful two-year master’s program. We want to use European values in order to develop Georgian labor relations. This is cooperation between three Georgian and four European universities. We have been working on this program for a long time already and now we are ready to implement it,” the Head of the Sociology Department at Free University of Brussels said.

The new master’s program “European Integration and Labor Relations” will be implemented at TSU, Caucasus University and Georgian American University in frames of the European Commission’s Tempus/TACIS program. This interdisciplinary and interuniversity program will enable MA students to get education simultaneously at all the three universities. The key directions of the master’s program are: economic policy; employment policy in Georgia and EU states; European welfare state models; labor relations and social dialogue in Georgia and EU states; European regulations in human rights and labor relations; experience of Eastern European countries in terms of EU integration and transformation; comparative labor law.

Foreign partners of the project are: Free University of Brussels (applicant); European College of Economics and Management in Plovdiv; University of Magdeburg; University of Santiago de Compostela.

The project will provide financial support to MA students to prepare their master’s theses at foreign partner universities.
