Meeting with Students of TSU English-language Program “Medicine”

Over 150 students from 11 countries have been enrolled in the English-language program of the Faculty of Medicine at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze, Head of TSU Quality Assurance Office, Irma Grdzelidze, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dimitri Kordzaia, as well as representatives of the TSU Departments of Learning Process Management, Foreign Relations, Culture and Sports and Consultancy Center held a meeting with students on October 29.

Rector George Sharvashidze welcomed the fact that foreign students have an opportunity to receive the university education, which will be recognized worldwide. “We have students from 12 countries of three continents and their number is growing. Respectively, we are increasing the potential needed to serve these students. We have great traditions. The TSU Institute of Morphology is a famous research institution, which is also connected to medical direction,” Rector Sharvashidze said, adding that TSU plans to open its own clinics.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dimitri Kordzaia said that the participants discussed the challenges of the program “Medicine” accompanying the learning process as well as the services offered by TSU to students. “This is a new initiative. Along with the first-year students, the second-year students and students of the preparation courses, including 15 students from Jordan, who plan to enroll in the Faculty of Medicine, also attended the meeting. I think that we should hold a lot of such meetings. We should help students integrate into the university life,” he said.

Foreign students said that they decided to study at TSU, because it is “the oldest and the most prestigious university in Georgia.” “We have offices in Jordan, which recommend us where to undergo studies. Just one of such offices recommended me to study at TSU. TSU always knows what you want. It understands that you are a foreigner and need assistance. I love this university,” said a future student from Jordan.

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University annually implements about 200 local and international scientific grant projects. Seven faculties are implementing about 240 educational programs, including over 20 foreign-language programs, with about 22 thousand Georgian and about 600 foreign students undergoing their studies there.
