Meeting with PhD Students

Rector of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Academician Vladimir Papava met with PhD students, who won the competition announced by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, and congratulated them on their success. Successful PhD students received memorable medals and certificates from the Tbilisi State University.

The Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation will finance studies for 60 PhD students from TSU, as well as all necessary expenses for their doctoral research, internships abroad or visits and participation in conferences.

“It is a very important day at the university, because we celebrate the success of our winners. They managed to obtain grants and serious funding has been allocated to each of them. Most of the grants have been obtained just by TSU doctoral students. This is for the first time that the Rustaveli Foundation financed PhD students. I would like to wish all young scientists great success and call on them for more active work,” TSU Rector said.

PhD student Tatia Mtvarelidze said that “the grant competition announced by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation for PhD students is extremely important. I am very glad that TSU students obtained a great part of financing. Financing is extremely important for each doctoral student and I hope that we will feel more support from the state in future.”

It was for the first time this year that the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation issued state grants for financial support of PhD students. The applications submitted during the competition were assessed by independent experts.

As a result, TSU is still leading since 60 out of 135 financed PhD students are from TSU – it is 44% of total financed applications. The total budget of winning projects amounts to GEL 902,197. 37 PhD students were financed from the Georgian Technical University (27%; total budget GEL 417,998); Ilia State University – 17 PhD students (13%; total budget GEL 280,292).
