General Philip Breedlove Visits TSU

General Philip M. Breedlove, who is NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander of U.S. European Command, visited the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on October 22 to meet with TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava and students from various higher educational institutions of Georgia.

During the meeting General Breedlove focused on NATO policy, international challenges, global security issues, as well as Georgia-NATO relations and Georgia’s contribution to NATO peacekeeping operations.

In his remarks General Breedlove praised Georgia as a valuable partner and noted that Georgia would continue its security mission in Afghanistan together with NATO. 

“General Breedlove’s visit to TSU is extremely important for our university and Georgian students, as they got an opportunity to establish direct contact with top NATO commander and obtain first hand information from him. All the questions asked during the meeting were topical for our country and region. I think that such meetings are very interesting and we will be glad if similar events are again held in future; the university’s door is always open for top guests,” TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava said.

During the meeting U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove also answered questions from students.

“The meeting was extremely interesting because modern challenges and threats faced by our country were discussed with such top guest. We also discussed the issues related to international terrorism and the threats coming from Islamic State (ISIS). General Breedlove was absolutely open; he actively answered all the questions; so, we, the students, remained satisfied with this meeting,” Irakli Maisashvili, law student from TSU, said.
