Adami Media Prize for Cultural Diversity in Eastern Europe

The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a panel discussion “Current Challenges to Cultural Diversity in the Media” on December 10.  The panel discussion focused on the issues of cultural diversity in audio-visual media and it was led by invited European media professionals including: Frans Jennekens, Head of Diversity Department of NRT Dutch Public Broadcaster and Chairman of the Intercultural and Diversity Group within the European Broadcasting Union; Kurt Schaad, co-founder of Zurich based first European social media internet television station JOIZ, with 38 years of work experience for Swiss Public Television; and Robert Parsons, Chief Foreign Editor of France 24 - English Service, former head of GPBs Kanal PIK, with 18 years of experience as BBC correspondent.
Deputy Rector of TSU, Merab Eliashvili said: “The today’s conference is very interesting and important for the students of Tbilisi State University. They will be able to listen to leading media professionals and get involved in the discussion with them, as well as to get information about the role of promoting cultural diversity in media and current challenges.”  
“I would especially like to thank the Tbilisi State University for its contribution to organizing this event. Media experts from various countries are present here and they will share their knowledge and experience with future and experienced journalists, students and audience,” Adami Programme Director, Stefan Tolz said.
The Adami Media Prize for Cultural Diversity in Eastern Europe was created in 2015 to encourage audio-visual journalists and media professionals in the EaP countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine) to focus upon the themes of migration, integration and cultural diversity, and to promote their work by recognizing and rewarding exemplary programmes.
The prize aims to increase media interest in the promotion of cultural diversity and to encourage networking amongst programme managers and filmmakers in Eastern Europe.
