New Academic Year at TSU

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Giorgi Sharvashidze and faculty deans congratulated students on the beginning of a new academic year.

TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said: “A new academic year has been launched. I congratulate all Georgian students and especially the students of our university on this day. First–year students have joined us today. We are ready to create all necessary conditions for their successful studies, as well as to provide talented students with all the opportunities for their scientific activities.”

“You have become the students of the most important university. To be a university student and to study at the Tbilisi State University is a special responsibility and a big burden and you should bear this name worthily. We should do our best to create better future and this is directly linked with getting qualified higher education. Therefore, we should use each day as much efficiently as possible,” Tbilisi Mayor, TSU Professor Davit Narmania addressed the first-year students.  

“Today is the most exciting day – academic career is being launched for first-year students. You have a lot of perspectives ahead. By decision of the Ministry of Education and Science, some more MA and PhD programs will be financed. And it will help you become professionals. This is the beginning of your brilliant student life,” Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Giorgi Sharvashidze said at the ceremony.

TSU Rector Vladimer Papava awarded Rector’s Scholarship to the best performing student of the 2013-2014 spring semester, Ani Nachkhatashvili; the best lecturers for the 2013-2014 academic year selected by students were awarded too. Elene Gabelaia, who was enrolled with highest scores, will receive a monthly scholarship from the mobile communications company Magticom during a year. TSU handed over computers to the best performing students from all the six faculties, while Palitra L Publishing presented books and Readers Club cards to excellent students.

“I am so glad that I am the first by rankings. I am happy to receive a tablet and scholarship from the company Magticom. I wish success to all would-be-students,” Elene Gabelaia said.

During the event TSU announced about the launch of the sixth season of a literary competition Autumn Legend, a joint project of TSU and the company Geocell.
As a result of the Unified National Exams in 2014, about 4000 students were enrolled in TSU. Over 20 000 students, including those ethnic Abkhazian, Azerbaijani and Armenian students, who were enrolled in the Georgian language learning program, are undergoing their studies at six faculties of TSU. The Tbilisi State University is leading by number of students, whose studies will be fully financed by the state, as well as number of students with partial financing. By the end of 2014 a new Faculty of Psychological and Educational Sciences was added to already existing six faculties of TSU.
