The 1st Conference of Teachers

The Institute of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Humanities opened the 1st conference of teachers “University to School – School to University” at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, representatives of academic circles and public schools attended the conference.

“It is important that professors together with teachers discussed a wide range of issues, such as teaching, how new generation should be educated, how the university should contribute to this process. No one doubts how necessary teachers’ profession is, but it has not overgrown from words to deeds. The significance of teachers should be raised at a higher political level. We will try to popularize this profession. Special emphasis should be laid on those directions, where the university can play its role. This includes a number of issues, such as granting of teacher’s qualification to the university graduates and the university’s engagement in retraining program. Retraining centers should operate under the university and we will assume responsibility for it,” TSU Rector Vladimer Papava said.

The key goal of the conference is to develop and deepen the academic relations between higher educational institutions and public schools; to share knowledge and experience between participants that will promote the increase of teaching quality at both secondary and higher schools and will develop theory and practice of pedagogical science; to analyze by academic staff and school teachers the difficulties and problems of educational goals set during modern educational processes; to raise problematic issues stemming from professional needs and to outline particular steps with the purpose of developing the ways and forms of future mutual cooperation.

The two-day conference ended on November 30.
