Statement by Initiative Group of TSU Professors
The Initiative Group of Professors established following the recent developments at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) met with the both rival groups of students, the Academic Council and the Rector on March 22.
Following the meetings, the Initiative Group released a statement, which says: “In view of the current situation at TSU, the Initiative Group elected by the General Meeting of Professors has applied to the Academic Council with a concrete proposal. The Initiative Group of Professors deems expedient, first and foremost, to carry out those actions, which can be implemented under the TSU Statute; in particular:
1.Short-term actions:
a)To carry out reorganization of the Academic Council;
b)To announce a competition to fill the position of the Head of Administration;
c)To audit the Administration’s staffing arrangements.
2.Long-term actions:
To take efficient steps in order to create real autonomy and strength the university.
The Initiative Group of Professors is ready to work over the above mentioned issues with the Academic Council, Senate, academic staff and students.”
