A Dissertation Council has been established at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU). The 15-member body granting a Doctors academic degree was established upon the decision of the TSU Academic Council and its main purpose is to increase the quality of dissertations at TSU. The Dissertation Council will examine dissertations submitted by the university faculties and make a decision on further procedures. The Dissertation Council is elected for a term of two years.
The Dissertation Council held its inaugural session on June 14 and elected TSU Associate Professor, Ketevan Khutsishvili as its Chairperson. Khutsishvili said that the Dissertation Council will promote the development of scientific activities at TSU “to further strengthen the standards.” “The Council will familiarize itself with dissertations to ascertain whether they meet standards. Special attention will be paid to the cases of plagiarism and other violations,” she noted.
During its first session, the Dissertation Council discussed new regulations and rules and approved the members of dissertation committees.
