Fieldwork Course for Students

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosted professors and students from the University of Bern (Switzerland) and the Armenian State Pedagogical University on June 20-28. They participated in a joint workshop and fieldwork course in Lagodekhi, eastern Georgia. The results of practical works will be released in a form of publications and will also be reflected in MA theses of Georgian and Swiss students.

The fieldwork course was held within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the Tbilisi State University and the University of Bern in 2016. The Memorandum envisages exchange of students and their participation in joint educational and fieldwork courses. With the support of Swiss counterparts, a textbook on sustainable mountain development has been prepared; it will be released in 2018. The book will cover social, economic and environmental problems persisting in mountain regions, and generally in the world, Caucasus and Georgia.

As international networkers, the University of Bern is represented by the Centre for Development and Environment (Prof. Dr. Peter Messerli; Dr. Heino Meessen), and the Tbilisi State University is represented by the Department of Geography and Landscape Planning (Prof. Nodar Elizbarashvili).
