TSU Hosts Premiere of the Play “Host and Guest”

A student theatre Skhveni held a premiere of the play “Host and Guest” at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on March 30. The play staged according to an epic poem by Georgian poet, writer and philosopher, Vazha-Pshavela is a kind of experiment and represents a synthesis of pantomime, choreography, drama and vocal. Gogi Gomurashvili is stage director, Paata Mkheidze – choreographer and Tamar Gurgenidze – scenic artist.

“The play “Host and Guest” is not new for Georgian viewers. It has been performed in almost all Georgian theatres and now it came to the TSU stage. The play was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of TSU. It represents an experiment, because we have united pantomime, choreography, drama and vocal,” Gogi Gomurashvili said.

TSU student, actress Tamar Mirianashvili said that staging a new play is a huge responsibility for the theatre troupe, adding that students have a hope for success.

Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze awarded the theatre troupe for active participation in the events marking TSU’s 100th anniversary. “As always, our theatre offers us very interesting plays. Noteworthy that all participants are students. Our theatre, like our university, has turned 100. We will mark this anniversary date soon and launch a series of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of our theatre,” Sharvashidze said.

The event was organized by the TSU Department of Culture and Sport within the framework of the events dedicated to TSU’s 100th anniversary.
