TSU, Ministry of Defense Sign MoU on Cooperation

On January 14, TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava and Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Mikheil Darchiashvili signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the Ministry of Defense of Georgia (MoD).

According to the Memorandum, the staff of the TSU Arnold Chikobava Institute of Linguistics will learn English and Russian military terms and elaborate their Georgian equivalents. They will also be involved in the process of developing an electronic dictionary with relevant military terms.

“It is extremely important to develop the Georgian language and to create new terms in various spheres. Military sphere is a field with lots of new words and naturally, it requires the formation of relevant terms and definitions in the Georgian language. Hence, the cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and TSU with the Arnold Chikobava Institute of Linguistics playing a leading role is utterly important and I suppose that this cooperation will be successful,” TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava said.

Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Mikheil Darchiashvili said: “Deepening of cooperation with the Tbilisi State University is one of the priorities for the Ministry of Defense. The key goal of the MoU on Cooperation is to create an electronic dictionary of military terms and definitions by joint efforts. It will be an important product, which will subsequently be used by military educational institutions, the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff of Georgian Armed Forces and entire Georgia.”
