Model UN - Rights of the Palestinian People

Students from different universities discussed the issue of Palestinian autonomy and its future in frames of Model UN conference held at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Students from various countries presented the positions of different countries on the topic “The Rights of Palestinian People.”

TSU Deputy Rector Merab Eliashvili said while addressing the students that “they are involved in widespread and popular imitation game. Students provide assessments and recommendations typical for this or that country. This is very interesting, especially for the students of those countries, which face political problems. Similar events are extremely necessary and useful for the youth.”

“I am glad that Model UN was held. Students from about ten universities are participating. It is very pleasant when young people are ready for new ideas, new thinking,” Niels Scott, UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia, said.

President of TSU Student Self-Government, Sopio Chitadze, who organized the event, also spoke about the Model UN. She said that “similar events have already been approbated in other countries worldwide. We will do our best to support the students to take their first steps and get acquainted with the rules of activities of international organizations. It will help them protect Georgia’s position and defend their country’s interests internationally.”

During the Model UN conference, TSU student Nana Achaidze voiced India’s position: “I represent India at the UN Assembly. I voice my position with respect to Palestine and express support to Palestine, its sovereignty. Indian people think that Palestinian people have the right to have the state.”

The representatives from the UN Office in Georgia, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia attended the event.
