International Conference “Modern Problems of Applied Mathematics”

Georgian scientists as well as scholars from six foreign countries will discuss the ongoing developments and novelties in the sphere of applied mathematics during the 2nd International Conference “Modern Problems of Applied Mathematics” dedicated to the 95-year anniversary of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and 45-year anniversary of the Ilia Vekua Institute of Applied Mathematics. TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Tamaz Marsagishvili, Director of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation Sulkhan Sisauri, as well as Georgian and foreign scientists will participate in the event.

TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava said that “among Georgian scientific schools, the mathematical school is especially notable; therefore, it is logical that the Tbilisi State University hosts such conference. We have quite strong Institute of Mathematics after Ilia Vekua; we have strong mathematicians with internationally recognized achievements. These traditions should continue. Therefore, international conferences should be held regularly, especially in important directions such as applied mathematics.”

“Georgian science has always been at the forefront of world science. We have faced a certain failure, but today this problem is gradually decreasing and we can only welcome this fact. We hope that soon we will regain those positions, which Georgian science had previously. It is especially interesting that our colleagues from the West are actively participating in similar conferences. Such conferences promote the convergence of science with western systems. This is one of the major tasks of the Ministry of Education and Science today,” Deputy Minister of Education and Science Tamaz Marsagishvili said.

Georgian and foreign scientists from Italy, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Canada and United Arab Emirates will present their papers in applied mathematics.
The conference is organized by the Tbilisi State University, Ilia Vekua Institute of Applied Mathematics, Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences at TSU, Tbilisi International Center of Mathematics and Informatics, Georgian National Committee of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation is the sponsor of the event.
The conference will be closed on September 7.
