Presentation of Textbook ‘The Rights of the Child in International Law’
The Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) hosted a presentation of the textbook The Rights of the Child in International Law (Rights of the Child in a Nutshell and in Context: All about Children’s Rights) issued under the scientific editorship of Deputy Rector of TSU, Academician Levan Aleksidze and Professor Ketevan Khutsishvili.
The publication was issued in the Georgian language in frames of the university textbook translation project initiated by Rector Vladimer Papava and was printed at the TSU Publishing House.
“The university continues the project of translation of internationally recognized textbooks and today we are holding a presentation of translation of a very interesting textbook. I think, this book will be an important acquisition for Georgian young people and professors,” TSU Rector, Academician Vladimer Papava said.
The co-authors of the book are: Nevena Vuckovic, founder and director of the Child Rights Centre (Belgrade); Jaap Doek, former chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child; and Jean Zermatten, founder and director of the International Institute for the Rights of the Child (Switzerland).
The textbook was translated from English upon the initiative of the International Law Institute at the Faculty of Law of Tbilisi State University and supported by UNICEF.
“The book is about children’s rights in international law. Actually no one, and especially parents, knows much about it. The textbook is unique and it discusses a lot of such things, which you have never contemplated before, for example, legal rights of the child,” Academician Levan Aleksidze said.
