During the wreath laying ceremony TSU Rector Vladimer Papava spoke about the introduction of Ivane Javakhishvili International Scientific Prize: “A great Georgian scientist, Ivane Javakhishvili died just on this day while delivering a lecture at the university. Today, we, his grateful successors, laid a wreath at his grave. I want to announce about a very serious decision made by the university, which will immortalize the name of this prominent patriot: the university has introduced an international prize for foreign scientists for their special contribution to the development of Kartvelian studies. In addition, a scientific forum dedicated to his memory will be held annually in April, Ivane Javakhishvili’s birth month.”
“The university marked the day of Ivane Javakhishvili’s death with an interesting initiative – Ivane Javakhishvili International Scientific Prize was introduced. This fact is extremely important because interest towards Kartvelian studies will further increase abroad; moreover, it will promote the popularization of Kartvelian studies. This direction had always been strong at TSU. Ivane Javakhishvili laid the foundation not only to a large school of Kartvelian studies, but also to all those branches, which are presently studied at the university,” Ivane Javakhishvili’s successor, Giorgi Javakhishvili said.
