Scientific Conference “Contemporary Challenges in the Spheres of Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Asylum and Migration”

On June 30, 2018 at 10:00, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosts annual scientific conference on Contemporary Challenges in the Spheres of Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Asylum and Migration.

This year’s edition of the Conference is dedicated to the 10 year anniversary after entry into force of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings and to the International Refugee Day, marked in June. The primary objective of the Conference is to promote and enhance academic debates and to raise awareness on international standards and practice related to the combating trafficking in human beings, asylum and migration.

Research on the topics, selected by the students of Tbilisi State University, has been conducted in the course of following subjects: Protection of Refugees in International Law, Actual Issues of Migration Management and International Legal Standards against Trafficking in Human Beings. In particular, papers submitted by the students for presenting at the conference, deal with important topics, such as:

•    The state of rights of migrants without legal status;
•    Relation between migration and state security and the role of media coverage in this regard;
•    The rights of asylum seekers and refugees under the common European framework;
•    Victim-oriented approach in relation to the crime of human trafficking;
•    Legal regulations of trade in human organs in EU countries;
•    Internet as a means of recruitment of trafficking victims and mechanisms of combat against it;
•    Prevention of trafficking in human beings – international legal framework and effective mechanisms.

Participants of the Conference will be awarded with certificates and selected works will be published in the bilingual journal of international law.

The Conference is hosted by the International Law Institute of Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
