Call for Applications for the admission on English Taught PhD Program in European Studies at Tbilisi State University (TSU)

Within the framework of EU funded Project: “Establishing Interdisciplinary PhD Program in European Studies at Tbilisi State University (#ENPI/2012/306-124) Institute for European Studies of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is pleased to announce call for applications for the admission on Interdisciplinary, English Taught PhD Program in European Studies.
Curriculum of the PhD Program was developed by involvement of the experts with International Experience from leading European Universities of the field.
Student of PhD program in European Studies may become a person having at least Master’s Degree in one of the following fields: Law, Economics, Social and Political Sciences and Humanities. Candidates are also required to have key interest in EU and its Institutions.   

•    The first intake of PhD students are fully exempted from payment of Tuition Fee;
•    PhD Students are sent for research purposes in Partner European Universities;
•    PhD students are supervised by Local/TSU and European Professors from the partner EU Universities.  


Entry Requirements:
1.    Research Proposal (3000 words maximum) giving the a) title of PhD Dissertation overview of the b) research goals, c) research question/questions, d) methodology and e) literature review.
2.    Exam in English Language on B2 level; (The candidates will be exempted from the exams if the relevant English language certificates are provided: EILTS – 6. TOEFL IBT – 90.
3.    Interview with Jury;
Only Short Listed Candidates will be contacted.
Postgraduates  of foreign Universities are allowed to submit their applications in full compliance with Georgian Legislation.

The Student has an obligation to stay in Tbilisi for Spring Semester (May – August, 2014)
And Autumn Semester (October – December, 2014)
During September – October 2014 – students will be sent to partner universities in EU for their research purposes.

•    Research Proposal;
•    Copy of Passport;
•    Copy of MA Diploma and Diploma Supplement approved by Notary;
•    Document certifying the Knowledge of English Language (Only if the Candidate has the document);
•    Letter of Motivation;
•    CV;
•    Announcement to Rector;
•    CD Version of Applicants Photo (3X4);
•    Written Confirmation that Applicant is not the student of other PhD Program, or was not rejected from being enrolled on other PhD Program.
Dates of Enrollment:
a)  Application Submission  – 5 - 15 April;
b) Exam in English Language  – 18 April;
c) Announcement of the results – 19 April;
d) Appellation of Exam results –   21-22 April;
e) Announcement of Appellation Results – 23 April;
f) Interview with Jury  – 24  April;
g) Conclusion of learning agreement  - 25-28 April;
H) Preparation of Order of Enrollment - 29 April.

The deadline for the submission of Applications is 15 April 2014, 23:00 pm.

Semester will start on 5th May 2014.

a) administrative registration - 30 April 1 May;
b) academic registration – 2-3 May;
c) Classes - 5 May – 16 August;
d) Exam Period - 18 August - 25 August (Main Exams), 5 – 14 September (Additional Exams);
