Anniversary Events at TSU
A cycle of lectures dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Georgia and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University was launched at TSU. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze and Head of TSU Library, Zurab Gaiparashvili delivered public lectures “University Education in Georgia” and “First Georgian University 1918-1921”, respectively.
“During a month we will have a cycle of open lectures. It should be noted that the first public lecture coincided with Ivane Javakhishvili’s birthday. Interest is high and I hope that a lot of school pupils who are attending the events will become students of this university in future,” Rector Sharvashidze said.
During his public lecture, Head of TSU Library, Zurab Gaiparashvili spoke about the idea of establishing the university, activities of its founders, relations between the state and the university. He said that “this year is special because we mark the 100th anniversary of TSU and declaration of Georgia’s independence. Just therefore, the scales of current events will be large this year.”
The cycle of lectures will last till May 26, the Day of Independence of Georgia. TSU professors and tutors will acquaint public school children and other interested persons with important aspects of the country’s independence and development.
As part of anniversary events, TSU Museum hosted an exhibition dedicated to Ivane Javakhishvili’s birthday. Rare items, photo materials and memorabilia depicting Javakhishvili’s scientific and public activities were displayed. Director of TSU Museum, Maia Gurabanidze said that “the exposition involves Ivane Javakhishvili’s memorabilia – family album, the University Statute handwritten by him, his personal items.”
