TSU 99
The Day of St. King David Agmashenebeli and the 99th foundation anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University were marked in the Holy Trinity Cathedral with a church service held by Metropolitan of Gori and Ateni Andria (Gvazava). Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze, professors, representatives of the administration attended the church service.
The first-ever national university in the Caucasus was opened on January 26, 1918, the day of commemoration of King David the Builder (new style February 8). In 1989 the Tbilisi State University was named after its founder – Ivane Javakhishvili. The university laid the foundation for a European-type higher school in Georgia, based on Georgian educational traditions. Today it is one of the largest higher educational institutions by its scales.
