TSU Rector’s Statement
Unfortunately, alienation of the property belonging to the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and launching of inappropriate and unacceptable activities near the TSU educational buildings has already become traditional.
Our first appeal to the Government and the society was about the possibility of alienation of the property belonging to the scientific research institutes affiliated with the Tbilisi State University; later we made a statement about the alienation of a land plot located at University Street, near the University Library, which is actually used by the university, as well as about the perspective of establishing a cemetery on that territory. Now, it turns out that fuel station construction has been launched near the Maglivi Building of TSU, where a library is located along with two educational buildings and construction of student and science house is planned in the near future. Besides the fact that this decision is directly linked with neglecting youth safety norms, it hampers possible projects on the development of TSU space; moreover, a lot of interesting initiatives announced in the recent past, including on the construction of youth center, food facilities, which were so important for our students, have been neglected. Regretfully, the government agencies have reversed their decision in favor of construction of a fuel station.
We apply to the Georgian Government, the Tbilisi City Assembly and the Tbilisi Municipality to exercise all available powers to ensure that the interests of TSU, the university society and its students are not neglected.
