TSU Offers Equal Conditions to All Students

A new rule of funding student projects will be enforced at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University starting 2017. Upon initiative of Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze, a special council will be set up aimed to ensure transparency and parity; the council will include the representatives of non-governmental and international organizations. The council will develop the criteria for funding student projects. “It will once and forever settle the problem about biased distribution of TSU finances and the mechanism of open, transparent, impartial distribution of the university resources will be introduced. Student projects will be funded through a grant competition,” Giorgi Sharvashidze explained. He also noted at the news briefing that Deputy Rector of TSU, Mikheil Chkhenkeli will lead the council.

In 2017, special attention will be paid to students’ scientific and research activities. Important amendments were made to the 2017 budget of TSU – expenses were reduced in the parts of business trips (-26.9), office (-11.15%), representation (-30.05), as well as remuneration. The funding for students’ participation in research activities has increased significantly. The Rector said that this article has been separated in the budget and in 2017, GEL 600 000 will be spent on student research.

In addition, budgetary funding was allocated to improve conditions at the university’s student dormitory. Renovation of toilets and laundry rooms was financed; washing machines were purchased. A resource center with a library and computers will be arranged at the dormitory. Thus, all students living there will have free access to Internet resources.

Students will have better conditions next year. The Rector said that number of places available in the dormitory will be doubled; a new catering facility will be opened, while new student cards will enable students to enjoy various discounts.
