Higher Education Reform in Georgia: Challenges and Opportunities
A presentation of the research “Higher Education Reform in Georgia: Challenges and Opportunities” was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) on March 27. The event was organized by the TSU International School of Economics (ISET), the World Bank and UNICEF as part of the Education Policy Forum (EPF).
Rector of the Tbilisi State University, Giorgi Sharvashidze, who also attended the event, said that the report prepared by foreign experts was dedicated to the problems of education in Georgia and the ways to solve them. “The presentation is very interesting, but there are a lot of disputable issues and we hope that we will agree on key principles in the course of the forum,” Rector Sharvashidze said.
Representatives of public, private and NGO sectors participated in the event.
“Today we are holding a presentation of the research on higher education. We tried to identify key problems and challenges. We have met a lot of stakeholders and developed a number of recommendations on the basis of available data and our research. Our recommendations involve the visions through which it will be possible to develop higher education in Georgia in particular directions, from education quality and internationalization to research,” Levan Pavlelishvili, senior researcher at ISET Research Institute, said.
The EPF aims at generating a debate and communicating critical analyses regarding the government priorities and investments in education. Specifically, the forum discussed the goals, targets and developments outlined in the 2016-2020 education agenda.
